Electric truck maker opens Nuneaton base and announces plans to hire 1,000 people – Coventry Live

An electric truck maker has opened a base in Nuneaton and announced plans to hire 1,000 people. Tevva has opened its base at the HORIBA MIRA Technology Park, Europe’s leading mobility research and development location for developing advanced automotive technology.

The UK-based EV and hydrogen truck/HGV maker, says it is aiming to produce 3,000 vehicles a year by 2023 and is looking to hire 1,000 people. As part of that massive recruitment drive, the company is holding its first recruitment event at MIRA later this month.

Tevva is a British electric and hydrogen truck maker which designs and manufactures zero-emission medium-duty trucks with a combination of battery electric and hydrogen fuel-cell range extender technology. Tevva trucks are already on the road and have accrued hundreds of thousands of miles in customer hands.

The Tevva Truck has a range of up to 250 kilometres in electric drive mode and a range of up to 500 kilometres with the range extender activated. Tevva’s new base provides the company with a proximity to HORIBA MIRA’s specialist engineering and testing capabilities among them extensive crash testing, climatic, dynamics and aerodynamic resources.

Having an office on the campus also gives Tevva more opportunity to partner with engineers and researchers working at the cutting edge of electric vehicle technology. Tevva says it also demonstrates the company’s intentions as a new OEM and, potentially, will attract even more talent to its rapidly growing team.

Tevva’s trucks have already undergone extensive trials at MIRA, including software and climatic testing, as the company gears up for series production of its truck which is due to begin shortly at its main UK base Tevva London. Ken Scott, chief engineer at Tevva, welcomed the announcement, insisting that it’s a great opportunity for the company to develop closer ties with organisations in the same sector.

He said: “MIRA Technology Park is second to none when it comes to automotive engineering and testing. Our trucks, both now and in the future, will undergo development there.

“Having a base there makes perfect sense as having a physical presence there will help us develop our technologies more rapidly. It also means lower overall costs for our research and development. This move clearly demonstrates that Tevva is growing at a rate of knots.”

Tim Nathan, managing director of MIRA Technology Park, said the campus, home to over 40 world-leading businesses from the global automotive industry, is primed for developing world-class vehicles.

He said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Tevva with the development of its pioneering electric truck, providing engineering and test consultancy from concept design through to final validation. The unique combination of engineering expertise, advanced testing facilities and prime location of MIRA Technology Park in the heart of the UK automotive industry, ensures Tevva can develop and validate their vehicles in one place.”

Tevva’s recruitment event takes place at the MIRA Technology Park on Thursday April 28 between 5pm and 8pm and is aimed at engineers. In its promotion for the event the company says: “Are you an engineer? How does making a difference by working for a cutting-edge technology company sound to you? Call 03305519633 or message us to book a place.”
